December 5 & 6th Simple Hinged Box with Jonathan Cox

Course Information

  

The box as a gift for the season will hold memories, documents, jewellery and other precious objects. The size of the lidded box is determined by participants in relation to the contents. Learn effective ways to use a router to bring shape to the box. The lid of the box has a simple hinge within the skills of all makers. This elegant box with highly effective subtle detailing will impress your friends and family as an excellent hand crafted gift. 

Open to all, maximum 6 people. Physical distancing and mask wearing will be carried out. Safety will be the first consideration with all the tools and use of the space.

November 21st Beginners Woodwork with Pierre Rousseau.

Course Information

  

There are some fundamentals, easy to learn for woodworking. Start with sharp tools, have a design idea worked out, choose the correct wood for the project and follow the step by step process.  Two days using hand tools to understand making coat hooks, cutting boards and other small objects. Planing and shaping wood, screws and peg fixings and finishing wood will be covered. 

Open to all, maximum 6 people. Physical distancing and mask wearing will be carried out. Safety will be the first consideration with all the tools and the use of the space. 

$170 + tax $192.10 Material fee $15

November 7th Studio Workshop Tour with Intersections

A chance to see different workspaces for various woodworking disciplines and notable woodworkers from the region. A tour designed for aspiring and professional woodworkers. How the woodworking workshop is set up will make a difference for efficiencies, pleasures of working, safety and …... How to set up in a garage and what you need to know for a custom- built studio workshop. The plan is to visit two in the am and two in the pm. It’s a lot to do in one day so a light lunch will be provided. Open to all maximum 8 participants.

October 17th Tree felling and chain saw safety

Course Information

  

This training session will focus on the safe handling of a chain saw for personal use. It will cover chainsaw sharpening and maintenance, safety equipment, as well as various technics involved in felling a tree and then cutting it into useful pieces of wood.  Joe Watson is a retired forester. His studies included a specialty in forest harvesting. It is optional to bring your own chain saw and safety equipment for assessment by the instructor.

August 8th Willow Basket Making with Vita Bowen

Course Information

  

Basket making is fundamental to understanding how wood responds to being manipulated.  The weaving of baskets may be applied to furniture, sculpture, indoor and outdoor screens. The instructor will prepare materials before the session. The workshop gets at the basics of manipulating wood for various applications.

We have approval from the City of Owen Sound to hold the Willow Basket Making class under the gazebo next to the water at Bayshore Park.  (Bring a packed lunch)

$130 + tax $146.90.  materials will be supplied for $20 payable to the instructor.

June 6th Forest Walk with Joe WATSON

Retired forester with the Ontario Government, woodworker and sailor.

  

Walk in the woods for tree identification and their properties useful to woodworkers. The walk will include different woodlot conditions where the ecology can be observed.  Examples of returning bush and mature forests will be explored. Max 6 people.

September 26th Bonsai Collecting with Kevin Yates

President Bonsai Society of Toronto

  

Finding the tree and transforming it for an elegant Bonsai. The group of eight people will go to private properties to collect trees that can be pruned to become bonsai trees. How to remove them safely, prepare the roots and branches and pot into a starter box will be presented.

A light lunch is included. Meet at 8:30am at Intersections Wood Gallery and Studio and then travel to collecting sites. Open to all maximum 8 participants.

$130 + tax $146.90 a starter box will be included. Payment should be made on the day of the class. Cheque or cash in an envelope would be appreciated. Cards may be used the day before at the Intersections Gallery.
