In this two-day workshop participants will construct a unique sculptural wooden lamp designed by
George Hart. This hanging lamp will become a beautiful design feature in any home and a
sculptural conversation starter. No special skills are needed for this project as only basic
techniques are needed to cut, sand, and assemble the lamp components.

Make your own hand tools for your studio workshop. It’s the best way to understand how to work with wood and have tools for your workshop for making fine woodworking.
Last Summer the successful Willow Basket Making class was held under the Gazebo at the
Bayshore Park. The weather was perfect and beautiful baskets were made with Vita Bowen. In the
Spring Vita will take participants out to find basket making material. While identifying different
plants will start the session collecting will also be part of the program. Participants may take either
or both classes in March and June. In June the baskets will be made from the collected materials.
If you did not go to the harvest class materials will be supplied through a small material fee.
If you own a wood lot, live in the countryside or just want to get out of the City these workshops
will set you up for a clear understanding of the potential for basket making materials and how to
work with them.

Physical distancing and mask wearing will be carried out when appropriate. Safety will be the first
consideration with all the tools and the use of the space. Safety instruction will be given for all
process using tools.

Jeff Elie built the huge Martin house that was in the window of Intersections last summer. It will be installed in his garden in the spring of 2021. Jeff has a wide range of skills which he is pleased to share with beginners and intermediate level participants.

Design and build an elegant “Birdhaus”. Create a unique hardwood birdhouse of your own design using Intersections’ computer-controlled CNC router. Pull it all together using traditional woodworking techniques. No computer skills necessary. Safety will be the first consideration with all the tools and the use of the space. Finding the tree and transforming it for an elegant Bonsai. A small group of people will go to private properties to collect trees that can be pruned to become bonsai trees. How to remove them safely, prepare the roots and branches and pot into a starter box will be presented.
A light lunch is included. Meet at 8:30am at Intersections Wood Gallery and Studio and then travel to collecting sites. Open to all maximum 9 participants.
$140 + tax $158.20 a starter box will be included. Payment should be made on the day of the class. Cheque or cash in an envelope would be appreciated. Cards may be used the day before at the Intersections Gallery or the morning of the class.
Kevin Yates is the President of the Bonsai Society of Toronto. He has a sharp eye for trees that will work well as a bonsai, how to prune and plant them securely in the starter box. Kevin is a renowned sculptor collected by major institutions including the National Gallery of Canada. He is a Professor of sculpture at York University and represented by the Susan Hobbs Gallery in Toronto.

The gazebo at Bayfield worked so well in 2020 we will ask the City of Owen Sound if we may use it again in June 2021.
Vita Bowen has given many basket making workshops. Her baskets have been exhibited in galleries and museums.
